German Association of University Professors and Lecturers names Katja Windt as »Professor of the Year 2008«

Katja Windt, Bernd Rogge Professor of Global Production Logistics at Jacobs University, was honored by the German Association of University Professors and Lecturers with this year's “Professor of the Year” award, which is endowed with 5.000 Euros. The association, the official professional representation of more than 22,000 university professors and young academics in Germany, acknowledged the mechanical engineer and mother of three children as a “role model personality”.

[ Nov 27, 2008]  With Katja Windt, who in July of this year also received the high-ranking Alfried Krupp Prize for young professors, the association honored a personality, who as a professor with three children, proves that parenthood, for many female scientists still a considerable obstacle, must not exclude a successful science career.

Professor Dr. Bernhard Kempen, president of the German Association of University Professors and Lecturers, commenting about the association’s prize decision, said: “In a time when in politics, the economy and science we are called upon to increase the business presence of women in science and to interest more young women in MINT fields, Prof. Dr. Windt stands as an important role model: She has very successfully asserted herself in the traditionally male domain of engineering science and encourages other women to take up study in this field all the way to professorship.” Professor Windt has rendered outstanding services in raising her profession’s reputation in public, Kempten concluded.

Katja Windt will receive her award on March 30, 2009, at the association’s annual science gala in Dusseldorf.
