Jacobs University Gowns
Dear Class of 2012,
Below you will find important details about ordering the gowns for your graduation.
Please read this information carefully.
Gown Ordering / Gown Rental Registration
In order to get the right gown for you, please register for your gown together with your graduation registration
at www.jacobs-university.de/graduation2012/registration.
Deadline for graduation and gown registration is March 11, 2012.
The rental fee for the university gown and accessories for Graduation Day is included in the overall student fees.
Gown distribution
When: June 6, 2012; 12:00 - 2:00 p.m.
Where: Campus Center, basement
You are required to bring your passport or €150 as a rental deposit.
Return of Gowns
When: Gowns must be returned after the ceremony on June 8, 2012;
between 1:00 - 3:00 p.m.
Where: Campus Center, basement
All gowns must be returned in person by the student in order to retrieve
your passport or monetary deposit.
About the Jacobs University Gowns
Jacobs University has set out to write a new chapter in the long history of formal academic attire. Although the initial idea was to replace gowns altogether by more modern-looking accessories such as ties and pins, a survey conducted among students and faculty has shown that they favor gowns.
Hence, the decision was made to fuse the traditional with the modern in order to create something truly unique for Jacobs University. Sibilla Pavenstedt, a fashion designer from Hamburg, was commissioned to design a special scarf to be worn over a single-colored gown. The result is a refreshing mixture of old and new, of tradition and innovation.
Although clearly identifiable in its basic form and dark blue color, the Jacobs University version of the academic gown bears no predefined symbolism. In addition to gown and scarf, Jacobs University graduates will wear the traditional mortarboard cap.
