Abstract:

The belly dance, which has survived for thousands of years and is believed to be the oldest form of dance, evolved from the worship of the great mother earth goddess and is associated with childbirth rituals. Belly dance grew out of a combination of fertility cults, religious rituals, magic and secular dances in ancient civilizations inextricably linked to the mother goddess cult.

The Oriental Dance Club invites you to an hour-long dance journey telling the story of “raqs sharqi” or Oriental Dance and how it came about in all the different shapes and forms known today.

Leading you through the various paths this dance style took over the ages, we will share with you the story of a lonely Harem left at the mercy of fate with no Sultan to take care of it.

In fact, while revealing to you the twists and turns of our tale through the different regional dances, we hope to tempt you in the ancient desire that has burned many souls: the wish to be a Sultan. No Harem deserves to be left without a master, man or a woman, so is the one to be chosen for a leader of a world of ancient rituals, dance, dark myths and desire hidden amongst you, our guests?
