Within a funded project at Jacobs University Bremen, at the Department of Life Sciences & Chemistry in the focus area Health at Jacobs University, is looking for a

PhD Position – in synthetic organic chemistry (m/f)

(Full-time 38 h/week / 3 years)

Your qualifications

  • M.Sc. degree in organic chemistry and two or more years of industrial experience synthesizing organic compounds.
  • Know how to set up reactions, monitor them, quench them, and purify the products. Within that framework you know how to optimize reactions.
  • Must have very good knowledge of 1H and 13C NMR spectroscopy and good knowledge of IR and MS data interpretation for structure elucidation.
  • You have experience with writing experimental descriptions and can express spectral and HPLC data in a text format.

Your curiosity for organic chemistry should be high and you want to expand your theoretical and mechanistic knowledge. In that context, you likely have an interest in taking one or two advanced courses in organic chemistry during your Ph.D. studies. The projects will be focused on organocatalytic enantioselective method development and their application to natural product or pharmaceutical drug synthesis.
