JACOBS Magazine

JACOBS Magazine, Issue 2012: »10 Years of Inspiration«
The latest JACOBS Magazine focuses on a milestone in Jacobs University’s young history: its 10th anniversary in 2011. Ten years ago, in September 2001, the launch of the university, then known as International University Bremen, set a sign that intercultural encounters as well as transdisciplinary research and teaching can form a reliable basis for educating responsible global citizens and future leaders in this world.
The magazine takes a closer look at the university’s first decade, featuring, amongst others, a history overview, a portrait of Jacobs University's first honorary doctor, the renowned physicist and founding chairman of the university’s board of governors, Reimar Lüst, an interview with Christian Jacobs, chairman of the Jacobs Foundation, and a commentary feature by journalist and education expert Birgitta vom Lehn.
Furthermore, you will find extensive coverage of the anniversary highlights with soundbites and great photo galleries as well as many story spotlights on Jacobs alumni, who are successfully making their way in all corners of the world.
Aside from diving into Jacobs University’s past, the magazine also features current developments, for instance by shining a light on sustainability research, one of the global challenges that Jacobs University has made its own. We also show you how members of the Jacobs Admission team travel the world, searching for the next generation of »Jacobeans«.
And have you ever wondered what Jacobs students get up to between lectures and how they spend their days? We followed Romanian student Dragos Mihai for a day to give you a glimpse into his unusual life on campus.
JACOBS Magazine appears annually. The articles, features and interviews are written in English or German, with excerpts available in the respective other language.
