Mercator College
Welcome to Mercator College - this residential college is named after the Stiftung Mercator GmbH from Essen and the Stiftung Mercator Switzerland, based in Lucerne. In 2002, the two foundations donated a total of € 6.5 million to Jacobs University Bremen for the renovation and reconstruction of our college. Mercator College officially opened its doors on April 8, 2003 and currently houses 180 students from more than 45 countries!
Mercator College strives to fulfill its mission of making diversity an asset, fostering personal growth, caring for emotions, helping to experience the community and to simply be a home away from home. The College Team headed by the College Masters and consisting of the College Office Manager with six student assistants and Resident Associates in conjunction with elected student representatives (College Council, Floor Representatives) are responsible for the smooth running of the college.
The residents of Mercator College - Mercatorians - are known for being individualistic, creative, arty and proving themselves on multiple occasions. The Mercator "spirit" stems from the heart of every person who lives here. Mercator residents are fiercely independent, know what they want and where they belong. In a college with such diversity in terms of nationalities, Mercator students are recognizable for their ability to open up to a variety of ideas and traditions. Bonded by our affinity to the college, every student’s unique input is what makes Mercator the hot spot of an intercultural meshwork. With such a reservoir of energy and knowledge, how can we not be the college with the greatest original output!
