Why did you choose MGH?
I wanted to keep studying history but with a modern international focus. I was very lucky that this kind of program was offered in the very same city I did my undergrad. There were many things that appealed to me like the very diverse student body and the possibility of choosing a world region as ones area of expertise. I also liked the idea of being a student in a program that combines advantages of two universities: Uni Bremen which I already knew from my undergrad and Jacobs University, a university that is different than German universities but has excellent facilities.
How is the workload?
The workload has definitely increased since my undergrad but it is totally worth it. I have already learned a lot in an area that truly interests me.
What is the dynamic like between the students and faculty?
There is one academic advisor for every student in the program, which enables a very close relationship between professors and students. Bremen University is huge and there are way more students but the professors do their best in helping you despite their own massive workload.
Advice/Suggestions for incoming/prospective MGH students?
Being German I surely had less troubles with the German bureaucracy. Just make sure you get everything done asap so that you can start the work-intensive first semester well rested.
What is Bremen like?
Bremen is a lively little city. There’s almost everything here one can possibly desire. And if not, there is still Hamburg close by. With the student semester ticket, I can travel to my hometown and Germany’s most beautiful city for free!
