What were you doing before MGH?
During my undergrad I spent an Erasmus semester abroad in Montpellier, France. Before starting MGH I worked as an intern at a newspaper and a radio station. I also took a few months to travel in South-America.
Why did you choose MGH?
I chose MGH because it not only offered specific knowledge about geographical regions but also about the processes and historical developments that cross national boundaries. Often there is not only a variety of perspectives but also a variety of background knowledge on a topic and sometimes these provide for very interesting historical and cultural insights. Another reason why I chose this program is its size. Studying only in small groups to me is one of the main keys to a positive and rewarding study experience as it gives each student the possibility to freely engage in discussions, ask questions and voice opinions.
How is the workload?
After first having only four classes didn´t seem like much to me – but it is enough! Especially in the fall semester there is not too much free time, but the learning effect in this intense studying period is great.
What is the dynamic like between the students and faculty?
The dynamic between the students and faculty and also between the 2nd years and 1st years has been very nice. The professors are very open about topics and flexibly adjust to what we are interested in during class.
What is Bremen like?
I like the city! As I live downtown everything is very easily accessible by bike. Houses are nice here and the river and a small lake are close by.
