Make a wish come true!
Students from Jacobs University’s B-A-Link club have teamed up with local parents’ initiative EPSYMO e.V. to help fulfill Christmas wishes from children living in Bremen-Nord. EPSYMO works with children who have learning difficulties and come from economically disadvantaged backgrounds.
December 5, 2011The students and EPSYMO members have asked 200 children between the ages of two and five from two kindergartens in Bremen-Nord what they would like from Santa for Christmas. Kids from the “Kinder- und Familien Zentrum am Fillerkamp” and “Kindertagesheim Lüssum” could name three wishes each, which were noted down and put up on Christmas trees at Jacobs University and in Bremen Vegesack. Members of the public and the Jacobs community now have the chance to make at least one of the wishes come true.
The “Make a Wish” project was pioneered two years ago to much acclaim by Jacobs alumna Marja Seidel. Now Inga Reichelt, club leader of B-A-Link, and her fellow members Yu Mi Won, Elisabeth Baumann, Andrea Patino and Georgiana Ciobotaru, have taken over the good cause. They have been working tirelessly together with EPSYMO and five parents to make the project a success. “We started this project because we feel it’s important to contribute something to our community in Bremen-Nord,” Inga explains. “We have had a good response from the local media and hope that lots of people from the local community and from our university will contribute by picking up one of the wishes from the trees to make the children’s Christmas a happy one.”
The wish-lists are displayed on nine Christmas trees: one has been set up at Gerhard-Rohlfs-Straße in Bremen Vegesack, the other eight are to be found on the Jacobs University campus with two in Reimar Lüst Hall, one at the Coffee Bar, one at Theaterspace and one each in the four residential colleges.
Until December 14, presents for the children can be taken to one of the drop-off local locations: Centerleitung Haven Höövt, Vegesack Marketing e.V., Schuhhaus Meinecke or the EPSYMO offices. At Jacobs University the Porters Office will collect the gifts, which will be handed out to the children on December 20.
To make sure that all children’s wishes will come true B-A-Link members have also placed donation boxes at different places on campus. You can find them at the Pulse Copy Shop, the Coffee Bar and the Friseur diner. Furthermore B-A-Link will also help the J-Capella choir with their Christmas concert. Donations received from these ventures will go towards fulfilling any remaining wishes from the Christmas trees.
