China Goes Global
Christoph Lattemann, Professor of Business Administration and Information Management at Jacobs University, has had a busy few months as one of the five organizers of the 5th China Goes Global (CGG) research conference taking place at Harvard University from October 2 to 4.
September 30, 2011Together with US-based colleagues Ilan Alon (Crummer School of Business), Julian Chang (Harvard University), Marc Fetscherin (Rollins College) and John McIntyre (Georgia Tech), Prof. Dr Lattemann has put together the schedule and speakers list for the three-day event, during which more than 120 academics from around the world will further examine and define China’s role in the globalization process.
The conference is part of the ‘China Goes Global’ initiative, a joint venture between Harvard University, Jacobs University, Georgia Tech and Rollins College / Crummer Graduate School of Business, with the aim of taking a closer look at the expansion and activities of Chinese firms abroad. Since 2007, the research collaboration between the five institutions has been funded by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation.
At this year’s CGG conference the focus will be placed on a variety of topics including China’s future role with regards to Outward Foreign Direct Investment (OFDI) and the purpose of and reasons behind such investments (e.g. in African or South American countries).
Furthermore the growing influence of Chinese companies through joint ventures, mergers and acquisitions on the processes, practices and ethics in business and on corporate responsibility will be discussed.
Professor Lattemann is joined at the conference by his Jacobs University colleagues Hilke Brockmann, Professor of Sociology, and Guido Möllering, Professor of Organization and Management, who will both deliver a lecture at the event.
Among the keynote speakers at the CGG conference will be John Child, Professor Emeritus at the University of Birmingham, Yagdong Luo, Professor of Management at the Miami School of Business Administration and Joseph Nye, Harvard University Distinguished Service Professor at the Harvard Kennedy School.
Prof. Dr. Lattemann says: “The aim of the CGG initiative is to investigate how and why Chinese firms internationalize and how their internationalization impacts on other nations. At our annual conference we build and strengthen our existing network of experts in international business and Chinese globalization, discuss and present new publications and papers in addition to the latest theoretical and practice-oriented findings with regards to China’s globalization.”
