Over 330 Freshmen and their families are arriving on Jacobs University campus as the university's tenth academic year begins. August 25 is the first day for most of the newcomers, undergraduate freshmen and graduate students, on the campus of their new Alma Mater. Until the official start of term on September 1, the students will get to know their new home territory through a diverse orientation week program.
August 25, 2010Orientation week at Jacobs University is the opportunity for the newcomers to get their bearings in the new environment that will be much more than a simple place for studies: As all undergraduates live on-campus, it will be their home for the next three years. In addition to numerous offers of “Who? What? Where?” information the new arrivals will meet with their personal mentors amongst the professors, get to know about the special features of their majors and other academic programs at the “Major Fair” and will celebrate their first party with their fellow residents and their residential staff at the college social nights.
O-Week also offers the students workshops on intercultural communication which will help prepare them for the unique multicultural campus community, Jacobs University also offers a workshop for accompanying parents. Participants have the opportunity to examine Jacobs University first hand and to be informed about the various facets of their children’s campus life - like the academic and social programs, services, security and financial issues.
