The power of innovation

November 18, 2016

Dr. Torsten Derr is a native of Bremen. Now the CEO of Saltigo GmbH, a subsidiary of the specialty chemical company LANXESS, has returned to his home town – for a lecture at Jacobs University. To students, professors, and employees of the international university, the chemist spoke about innovation as a driver of growth in his company.

With its approximately 1200 employees worldwide, Saltigo manufactures products for customers in pharmaceutical, agricultural, and specialty chemistry. Dr. Torsten Derr, who studied at the University of Bremen and also got his doctorate there, has been CEO of Saltigo since April 1, 2016.

For his visit to Jacobs University, he took several hours of time. Presentations and discussions with well-known representatives from companies, organizations, and scientific institutions are part of the educational offerings at Jacobs University. The students get firsthand insights and are often able to establish valuable contacts as they prepare for their future entry into the work world.

In his lecture, Dr. Derr emphasized that innovation in the chemical industry is and remains a key value, but even innovative products are no guarantee for market success. The important thing is to offer comprehensive solutions, such as the custom-tailored combination of technologies and services, meaning innovation in every respect.
