Scholarship Days on campus

Scholarship Days from July 26 to 28

From July 26, ten of the top German applicants will be chosen for Jacobs University's latest scholarship offer 'Jacobs Scholarships for Global Understanding‘.

July 26, 2011

In a new on-campus selection process members of the Jacobs Scholarship Committee, which for the first time also includes external business representatives, will pick the best candidates out of a total of 40.

Their decision will take into account the applicants’ personal, social and academic performance during the two-and-a-half-day event. In addition to attending a personal interview the candidates will take part in an intercultural group workshop to prove their personal interest in global understanding and their English-language skills. They will also have to pass an institutional written test in English.

During Scholarship Days the group of applicants will also get a first taste of campus life at Jacobs – they will stay in the residential colleges, attend mock lectures, can join a campus tour and take part in social activities.

The 'Jacobs Scholarships for Global Understanding’ were introduced at the beginning of this year to cater for the increased number of German Abiturienten leaving school as a result of educational reform which came into effect in German states Bavaria and Lower Saxony this summer and reduced the length of study for German Abitur from 13 to 12 years.

Marie Vivas, Director of Admission at Jacobs University, says: “We are very pleased with the response to our new scholarship offer, which is open to students who scored very high in their German Abitur. The overall number of German applicants to our undergraduate programs has gone up by 25%. 40 of our top German candidates are competing for our new Scholarships for Global Understanding. Furthermore the quality of the applications has also noticeably increased. We have had a lot more top applicants with results of 1.0.”

This year, the Jacobs Scholarship Committee, consisting of members of the Admissions team, students and faculty, will be able to count on the expertise of business leaders who are taking part in the selection process.
