Student advisors appointed

Student advisor Orientation Week
A warm welcome: The student advisors will assist the newcomers to settle into university life at Jacobs.

More than 60 Jacobs students from 24 countries will assist this year’s newcomers to settle into university life at Jacobs University. The so-called “student advisors” were appointed last week after having demonstrated high motivation and detailed knowledge about Jacobs University in individual interviews with Radu Rovin and Veneta Ilieva. The third-year-students and main organizers of the Orientation Week are confident of having made a great selection: “The student advisors performed really well. We are sure that their effort and enthusiasm will contribute greatly to make this O-Week an informative, fun, and definitely unforgettable experience for the freshies.”

Student advisors work in pairs of different nationalities to take care of a group of six to eight freshmen. They welcome the new arrivals, pick them up from the airport or the train station and provide assistance for their very first steps on Jacobs University Campus. In the course of Orientation Week the student advisors’ main goal is to familiarize their mentees with their new surroundings: Be it by meeting for dinner at the servery, going for a tour around campus or socializing at the student bar “the Otherside”. Some of the student advisors also work as intercultural trainers. In workshops during Orientation Week they invite the new arrivals to “Dive into Diversity” and get prepared for the benefits and challenges of intercultural everyday life at Jacobs University.
