A path to the future

Petar Perkovic hands the scholarship document to President Treusch

“We want to ensure that we continue to bring the world to Bremen and create citizens of the world,” Perkovic told the 1500-strong audience at the event. Thanking Perkovic for the alumni’s contribution President Treusch said: “We value the close ties with our alumni who are also shareholders of Jacobs University. They carry the Jacobs University name into the world and demonstrate that our promise is not an empty one: You will always stay part of the Jacobs community.”

The Classes of 2004 and 2005 have put forward one scholarship each. They also set specific criteria defining the unique potential and talent candidates for the scholarships should bring to the Jacobs campus. These premises in turn mirror the unique characteristics of the two classes.

While the Class of 2004, the first class to graduate from Jacobs, stressed the pioneer spirit characteristic for them, the Class of 2005 put the focus on entrepreneurial traits. "Both scholarships will assist in covering tuition fees and have now been awarded to Jacobs students," Perkovic says.

The ‘Pioneer Scholarship’ of the Class of 2004 went to Katherine Lee, 19, from Australia, who has just started her studies in Global Economics & Management. Eva Kisayake, 20, from Uganda and a first-year student in International Logistics and Management, received the ‘Think Big Scholarship’ of the Class of 2005.

“We are immensely proud to have set the sails for a new alumni tradition. In the future each alumni class will announce a new scholarship at their 5-Year reunion,” explains Perkovic. “For the Alumni Association this is a way to actively shape the future of some of the students and of our university.”

Alumni path as a symbol
To mark the occasion a new path will be built in front of the Campus Center. The stones used for the paving will be engraved with the names of the alumni who are contributing to the scholarships.

The alumni path is supported by the Unifreunde Bremen and was officially launched during Jacobs University’s anniversary weekend. Representing the organization, Uwe Nullmeyer symbolically presented the founding stone to start the alumni path. “Alumni bring together a wealth of talented and capable professionals, who share their expertise and experience, and brainstorm on the prospective avenues,” he said at the event. “With our support the Unifreunde want to inspire our students and future generations. Let the path grow…!”
