"JacoBeans" winners of Rubicon Contest 2010
Pranjal Y. Kumar, Trung Hieu Nguyen, Daniel Pustelnik and Salomon Theinert are the winners of the Rubicon Contest 2010. From March 8th to 10th their team named “JacoBeans” was taking part in this international business student contest in Iserlohn, Germany. Thanks to the creativity of their business ideas on sustainability the four Jacobs students of Integrated Social Sciences, Electrical Engineering and Computer Science as well as International Politics and History finally managed to prevail over 24 other participating teams from all over the world.

“Our team consists of the right diversity that helps us to find innovative solutions to any kind of problems. That’s how we succeeded in this contest” says “JacoBeans” team member Trung Hieu Nguyen. In the first round of the contest he and his fellows had to prove their economic skills in interactive computer simulations. The second and the final round consisted of case studies which had to be presented to an academic, business and young professional jury. In the second round, Pranjal, Hieu, Daniel and Salomon convinced the jury with their analysis on “Climate Risk Management of the E.ON AG”. Competing against three other finalists from Purdue University (USA), University of British Columbia (Canada) and the National University of Kiev / Mohyla Academy (Ukraine) in the final round the “JacoBeans” won the jury’s favor with their case study “Strategy Development in the Natural Gas Market”.
Background: Rubicon Contest
The Rubicon Contest is an international contest for business students. This year it was organized and hosted for the fourth time by students of the collegiate consultancy b.one e.V. on the campus of the Business and Information Technology School (BiTS) in Iserlohn. Besides Jacobs University’s team “Jacobeans” there were participants from various countries such as Finland, India or Costa Rica along with teams from universities like Princeton University or University of St. Gallen.
