All students who obtain a high school diploma or local equivalent prior to the start of the program and who possess English language skills equivalent to the B1 level of the European Framework may apply to the Foundation Year Program. Please note that we cannot accept O-Levels or AS-Levels as an entrance qualification. The application process is selective and seeks out motivated students who show both the intellectual and social promise to thrive in a diverse international study environment.
When to Apply
The rolling admission process for Fall 2017 intake begins on October 15, 2016 and closes latest on August 15, 2017. Students who require a visa for Germany should apply by June 15, 2017 since the visa process can take up to two months.
Applications are evaluated on a rolling basis. As spaces are limited and are filling up quickly, we recommend students to apply as early as possible.
How to Apply
In order to apply to the Foundation Year Program, please submit the following documents:
1. The Online Application Form: To apply to the Foundation Year Program, you first need to complete the Online Application Form. The online application includes an essay of motivation that needs to be entered directly into the form.
2. Your High School Transcripts: Please upload a scanned copy of your high school diploma and your high school transcripts in the online application system. If you are in your final year of high school and have not obtained your high school diploma yet, high school transcripts from the last 3 years will suffice for the application process. If admitted to the program, you need to present original documents upon arrival. All academic records must be translated into English or German with a seal affixed by the translator stating that the translation is a true copy of the academic record.
3. A Proof of English Language Proficiency: Please upload a copy of your original test certificate in the online application system. Applicants need to present a minimum score of 65 on the TOEFL iBT / 5.5 on the IELTS (UK) / 46 on the Pearson PTE Academic or the Cambridge Certificate (FCE). If English is your native language or if you have attended a high school where English is the language of instruction, the test requirement might be waived. Please contact the Foundation Year Office for more information.
4. A Letter of Recommendation: Please collect a personal recommendation from a teacher or faculty member OR from a school or university official (e.g. a counselor or the principal). Recommendation letters should be written or translated in(to) English or German. The letters of recommendation can be uploaded in the online application system by the recommender or may be sent via e-mail by the recommender to the foundationyear [at] jacobs-university.de.
