Foundations in Medicine I
Foundation in Medicine I is a basic module that introduces students to the fields of physiology and anatomy. It combines the fundamentals of physiological principles and the structure of the human body and of its parts. The two lectures will be complemented by two 2.5 CP courses. For physiology, students will attend a tutorial, where they can train and apply their knowledge from the lecture. In anatomy, training will be carried out in a dedicated lab course MedNat. As CHOICE module, students will study all courses in the English language.
Foundations in Medicine I is a Pre-requisite for the MedNat CORE modules.
Foundations in Natural Sciences
Foundation in the Natural Sciences will provide an introduction to the three classical Natural Sciences Biology, Chemistry and Physics. As a unique module, students will have in each of these three topics a 2.5 CP lecture, which will be combined with a 2.5 CP tutorial, in which the contents of the lectures will be trained in exercises. For all three topics, an overview about the basic concepts is provided together with an outlook to new developments.
Foundations in the Natural Sciences is a Pre-requisite for the MedNat CORE modules.
Intensive German I
Intensive German I is a first year module that will lay the basis knowledge in the German language.
The exact details of the two lectures of this Module will be arranged together with the Goethe Institute.
The lectures will be accompanied by a seminar series to introduce Germany as a whole, including the various the various forms of organization, stakeholders or regions.
Two lectures are complemented by a 5 ECTS seminar course including excursions.
This module provides the foundation for the CORE modules "Intensive German II".
Foundations in Medicine II
Foundation in Medicine II is an advanced module that builds on the CHOICE modules Foundations in the Natural Sciences and Foundations in Medicine I. It combines the fundamentals of microbiology with an overview about the human immune system. Students will learn how microbes act in the environment and on human health, and how scientists investigate and control microbial pathogens. The immune system will be explained and how identifies and eliminates cancer cells, viruses, bacteria, and parasites. Immune evasion mechanisms of pathogens will be elucidated as well as therapeutic approaches. In two 2.5 ECTS lab courses, students will learn in the German language to apply the knowledge from the lectures in the lab.
Cellular Biology is an introductory module giving a comprehensive overview about cellular structure and physiology. It will explain cellular architecture and organization and how cells need to interact and communicate in multicellular organisms. This module will thus provide insight into both, the organismal organization and specialization of cells as well as the underlying molecular processes, e.g., gene expression and intracellular transport. Two lectures are complemented by a 5 ECTS lab course on histology. This lab course will be carried out in the German language.
Intensive German II
Intensive German II is a second year module that will advance the knowledge in the German language laid in the corresponding CHOICE module.
The exact details of the two lectures in this Module will be arranged together with the Goethe Institute.
The two lectures will be accompanied by a 5 CP seminar series introducing the entire German healthcare system.
This module provides the basis for the CAREER module ‘Intensive German III’
Foundations in Medicine III
Foundation in Medicine III is an advanced module that builds on the CHOICE modules Foundations in the Natural Sciences, as well as Foundations in Medicine I and II. As a MedNat CAREER module, all courses will be taught in the German language. The will give a thorough introduction to Neurobiology and Molecular Biology. Both these topics will be introduced in lectures that are accompanied by a 2.5 CP lab course in neurobiology and a 2.5 CP tutorial in Molecular Biology.
Intensive German III
Intensive German III is a third year module that will advance the knowledge in the German language laid in the corresponding CHOICE and CORE modules. The exact details of the two lectures in this Module will be arranged together with the Goethe Institute.
The lectures will be accompanied by two 2.5 CP seminar series. The first of these seminars aims to train students for tests and interviews at Medical Schools in Germany, and the second will introduce methods of forensics.
