WORLD FAMILY EXCURSION - GLOBAL ART NEWLY DEFINED

Podiums discussion with Captain Klaus Müller, Horst Baraczewski and Director Arie Hartog

Upon the gracious invitation of the Gerhard Marcks Haus, Bremen you are cordially invited for an exciting evening of art exchange and discussion. The topic of the podiums discussion is the artworks and sculptures of the well-known artist, Ricardo Brey. Brey's works will be discussed in the light of Alexander von Humboldt's philosophy of the "family of man". Brey's art transcends the boundaries of time and locality to offer an intercultural mosaic of eclectic modern elements that make his work globally unique.

More information:
"The art of the sculptor and illustrator Ricardo Brey (born 1955) sometimes seems enigmatic, but then again it seems strangely familiar. In his poetic, imaginative assemblages, he focuses on the relationship between man and nature, on the cultural identity of his native Cuba and his adopted country Belgium, and on the interaction between different cultures and philosophies. Brey has been developing the project "Adrift" since 2014. It has a strongly existential dimension. Instead of insisting on origin, Brey emphasizes the "drift" with the associated changes and breaks in his work. In this group of works, the artist jumps between compositions, drawings, and photographs. Brey - Documenta and Biennale participants - does not make it easy for his viewers: the multi-layered work expects careful perception and the willingness to put conventional patterns of interpretation aside and to go in search of traces. This is the first museum exhibition of the artist in Germany.
A bilingual publication is being published in cooperation with the Museum De Domijnen in Sittard, the Netherlands, supported by the Freundeskreis des Gerhard-Marcks-Haus e. V."
