On behalf of the Scientific and Organizing Committees, we kindly invite you to attend the Fifth International Congress on Cocoa Coffee and Tea  2019 in Bremen, Germany from 26th to 28th June 2019.

Following the success of the previous editions of the Congress in Europe: Novara (Italy) in 2011, Naples (Italy) in 2013, Aveiro (Portugal) in 2015 and Turin (Italy) in 2017, we continue our successful interdisciplinary meeting focusing on the science of tea, coffee, cocoa, and related products.

Cocotea 2019 will again offer an inter-disciplinary opportunity for scientists to discuss different areas of Tea, Coffee and Cocoa, and to report innovative scientific achievements. These topics include biology, chemistry, technology, metabolomics, nutrition and health, Quality & Safety Control and sustainability.

Food chemists, food technologists, nutritionists, medical doctors and technicians from industry and academia are warmly invited to participate. We encourage inspiring new ideas and strongly promote the participation of students and young scientists and invite you to submit abstracts for oral and poster presentations.

Bremen is considered the “German Coffee Capital” and therefore a most suitable location for Cocotea. The first German coffee house opened in Bremen, named the “Schütting”, in 1673. Although not serving coffee anymore, the venue at the Bremer Marktplatz opposite Rathaus and Dom has survived the second world war and houses today the chamber of commerce. Ludwig Roselius (1874-1943) invented and patented the decaffeination of coffee in Bremen in 1903 and commercialized this product with his company Kaffee Hag. Today around 60% of coffee consumed and processed in Germany arrive at the harbor in Bremen and are stored here. Three large companies process the coffee directly in Bremen. On a good day with favourable winds, you are greeted by the coffee aroma of the Melitta roaster already at Bremen airport upon your arrival.

We are pleased to continue the great success of the previous meeting and look forward to welcome you at the Campus of Jacobs University Bremen in June 2019.
