What do your days look like currently?

I started at Amgen as an intern and was offered a full-time position after the internship. I am currently working in the Berlin Technology Hub department (TechHub), which aims to test health-related technologies. My main tasks are handling data and budget, making presentations and organizing people. The office mostly has German colleagues who have an international background, and the colleagues from other Amgen locations come from many different countries.

What did you think about your study program?

I liked my study program. The professors are knowledgeable and eager to help, and the practical work made all the science tangible. But I was also interested in the business side of things, so I took electives related to business, statistics, and math. The transdisciplinary approach really helped me with this and I realized this was my path.
Having a Biotech background and Business knowledge from my Jacobs program helped shape my career path. I did internships during my undergraduate studies in data analytics in biotech companies, which helped me get into a competitive Master’s program. All of which helped me work towards Amgen.

What did Jacobs do for you that you were not expecting?

My friends! Never have I ever expected how close my friends would be. I paid attention to all the promotional materials, I followed Jacobs on social media, and everyone tells you how high the student engagement is – it just does not compare to actually living it. I still keep in touch with my friends – we talk every day, and I can tell you exactly what they are up to now. Lots of laughter, moments in the common area, all the activities (from Arts Olympics, to CIDs etc.) are memorable events and part of what makes you and your Jacobs friends become each – others family.
Overall, I find the individuals that attend Jacobs incredible: students come from such diverse backgrounds, are amazingly open-minded and have great life experiences to share - it is something that I have rarely found since I graduated.

Why did you choose Jacobs out of all the other possibilities you had?

I had five other choices from the US including a full scholarship that covered living expenses. However, I felt like Jacobs would be a more special place: I liked that the university was offering a course I would love to study and the international campus combined with the German cultural experience appealed to me a lot. This was a reality I had not experienced when I lived and studied in my home country. Additionally, I received a financial aid package, and could visit my family often. It just made sense to me.
