One of the “100 Most Promising Big Data Solution Providers of 2016”

Research by Peter Baumann, Professor of Computer Science at Jacobs University, has been recognized once again: The US magazine CIO Review described Rasdaman - raster data manager - as one of the “100 Most Promising Big Data Solution Providers of 2016.”

So-called “arrays”- specialized, highly detailed data types used in data analysis - are now simply a fact of everyday life, appearing in sensor, image, simulation, and statistics data across all domains. They are the basis for simulating and analyzing large quantities of data - and offer enormous economic and social advantages, like product developments targeted towards a specific audience, recognizing rogue waves before they strike, or locating oil spills on the ocean.

Professor Baumann's approach is a new one. He combines the flexibility and standards of conventional SQL technologies with the function of arrays. The latter allow him to apply his program in the context of “data cubes,” the multi-dimensional representations of data. Rasdaman can quickly process enormous quantities of data and combine different data sources with one another or make them available worldwide.
