Research Interests: 

-Synthesis of perfluoroalkylated hypervalent derivatives of phosphorus, sulfur and silicon

-Syntheses and development of fluorinating- and polyfluoroalkylating reagents as well as fluorinated biulding blocks to modify biological and pharmacological active compounds

-Syntheses and development of modern fluorinated liquid crystal molecules for LCD-displays

-Syntheses and development of new Li-battery electrolyte salts, additives, redox-shuttles, electrolyte solvents.

-Syntheses and development of novel delocalized lipophilic cations as catalysts in the halex process and for ionic liquids

-Syntheses and development of novel bisphosphonates, active against osteoporoses and bone cancer

-Syntheses of novel fluorinated heterocyclic organophosphonates and bisphosphonates

-Syntheses of fluorinated phosphonic and phosphinic acids, new potential pharmaceuticals

Since 2009 Professor of Chemistry at Jacobs University Bremen.

Lady Davis Visiting Professor for three months 2010 at the Department of Chemistry, Technion (Israel Institute of Technology), Haifa, Israel.

Forchheimer Visiting Professor, School of Pharmacy, The Hebrew University of Jerusalem, 2000/2001 three months and 2005/2006 three months.

Visiting Professor at the Department of Chemistry, University of Utah, Salt Lake City, one month in 1981.

Since 1978 University Professor at the University of Bremen.

Visiting Scientist at the Department of Chemistry, University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, with Prof. Alan McDiarmid
(Nobel laureate for Chemistry in 2000), two months in 1973 and 1976.

1974, Postdoctoral Research Associate with Prof. R. Schmutzler.

Since 2012 Honorary Fellow of the Israel Institute of Technology (Technion), Haifa, (Israel).

Chair of the 18th Int. Symposium on Fluorine Chemistry, July 30 – August 4, 2006, in Bremen with approx. 450 participants.

Since 2006 Member of the Board of Governors of the Israel Institute of Technology (Technion), Haifa (Israel).

Since 1996 board member of the association of the German Fluorine Chemists, 1998 deputy chair, 2000-2002 Chair.

Member of a long term commitment of the DAAD for PPP India and Thailand.

Member of the GDCh, the American Chemical Society.

Member of the International Advisory Board of the 14th European Symposium on Fluorine Chemistry, Poznan (Poland).

Research is and was funded by the German Research Foundation; the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), the German-Israeli Foundation for Science and Development (GIF), the Federal Ministry of Economy and Energy, and companies of the chemical industry.


Award of Medal of Merit 

Prof. Dr. Gerd-Volker Röschenthaler was honored with the Medal of Merit of the Adam Mickiewicz University. The ceremony of awarding took place in the cabinet of the Rector of the Adam Mickiewicz University on June 29, 2017.
