JACOBS UNIVERSITY BREMEN

Welcome to Jacobs University!
Students from all over the world explore their new Alma Mater

People by the bus load, luggage, cars and sign boards everywhere. August 25 is the first day for most of the roundabout 400 Jacobs University newcomers, freshmen and graduate students, on the campus of their new Alma Mater. Until the official start of term on September 1, 2008, the newcomers will get to know their new home territory through a diverse orientation week program. This year about 1200 students coming from more than 95 nations will study and live at Jacobs University.

[ Aug 25, 2008]  Orientation week at Jacobs University is the opportunity for the newcomers to get their bearings in the new environment that will be much more than a simple place for studies: As all undergraduates live on-campus, it will be their home for the next three years. In addition to numerous offers of “Who? What? Where?” information the new arrivals will meet with their personal mentors amongst the professors, get to know about the special features of their majors and other academic programs at the “Major Fair” or will celebrate their first party with their fellow college mates and their college masters at the “College Social Night”.

In addition to the “O-Week’s” specialty, the workshops on intercultural communication that help to prepare the newcomers from all over the world for the unique multicultural campus community, Jacobs University now for the first time also offers a workshop for accompanying parents. 50 participants from almost all continents already signed up to examine Jacobs University first hand and to get information on the various different facets of their children’s campus life, like the academic and social programs, services, security and financial issues.

The “All University BBQ”, where the new students meet their Bremen host families for the first time, and trips to Bremen down-town will round out the O-Week program.
