Jacobs University’s Foundation Year is celebrating its fifth anniversary this week. Almost one hundred students have been a part of the program which has led them to successfully start their academic careers at Jacobs University and elsewhere. Jacobs University acknowledges the anniversary with a small reception for its campus community on April 16.
April 13, 2015The Foundation Year Program is an intensive pre-degree program that prepares high school graduates over two semesters for the challenge of studying at an international university and helps these students to determine the study program that best matches their interests.
During the one-year program, students are able to create their own personal study plan and to choose an academic focus based on their own interests and goals. The Foundation Year program offers four different tracks: A track focused on orientation for those students who are yet unsure what to study, a preparatory track for those wishing to prepare for their university studies in a challenging English-language university environment, a qualification track allowing students to boost their academic English and to prepare for admission to an English-medium university, and last but not least, a brand new medical preparation track allowing students to prepare for admission to medical schools in Germany and elsewhere in Europe.
Göksenin Cakir,a Foundation Year graduate from Turkey, says about his experience: “As a student of the Foundation Year Program I could gain invaluable insights into many different majors. The program allowed me to get to know my strengths and my weaknesses and to recognize my potential. I really value my teachers’ support in helping me improve my interpersonal skills and study habits.”
