We welcome applications from all students who fulfill the following:
- High school diploma or local equivalent
- English language skills (B1 level of the European Framework)
The application process is selective and seeks out motivated students who show both the intellectual and social potential to thrive in a diverse international study environment.
Please note: We cannot accept O-Levels or AS-Levels as an entrance qualification.
What do you need to apply?
To complete your online application, you will need the following:
|Copy of your original high school certificate and transcripts of the last 2-3 years|
|Official recommendation letter from a high school counsellor or a teacher on letterheaded paper|
|A personal motivation statement|
|Proof of English language proficiency; minimum score of 65 on the TOEFL iBT / 5.5 on the IELTS (UK) / 46 on the Pearson PTE Academic or 162 on the Cambridge Certificate (FCE) / 90 on the Duolingo English test / 4 on the OIETC English Language Level Test (ELLT)|

7 Stages after you submitted your application
STAGE 1: CHECK DOCUMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS
We will carefully review your application, check if you submitted all necessary documents and if you are eligible to apply to the program.
STAGE 2: ISSUE ADMISSION DECISION
Assuming your application is successful, we will send you a conditional offer of a place in the program.
STAGE 3: ENROLL IN THE PROGRAM
To accept a place in the program, you will need to submit the enrollment confirmation form and pay a deposit. The Offer Letter will contain the deposit amount.
STAGE 4: APPLY FOR VISA
You will then need to apply for your visa if applicable. With your admission letter, you are provided with a visa letter “Zulassungsbescheid” which you will need to complete your visa application. Students who require a visa for Germany should apply as soon as possible as the visa process can take up to 90 days. Our visa specialists are also here to guide you and support you during the process.
STAGE 5: FINAL PAYMENT
Advance payment of remaining fees will be required prior to arrival.
STAGE 6: SIGN YOUR STUDENT CONTRACT
Your student contract contains all relevant rights and obligations that will tie you to Jacobs University. Review your individualized version of the student contract very carefully, sign it and send it back.
STAGE 7: PREPARE YOUR ARRIVAL
Log onto your VIP page to learn more about all the necessary steps to go through for a smooth start at Jacobs University! Get information about your German health insurance, fill out the housing survey, let us know about your arrival date, and much more.

Focusing on your pathway has never been easier! The International Foundation Year comes with a full package of services that allow you to develop your potential. The total cost of 20,000 Euro covers everything from accommodation, food, leisure activities on campus, as well as a broad range of personal and academic support.
Your home away from home
You will live in your own furnished room in a modern two-bedroom apartment unit, sharing bathroom facilities with one roommate. There are four residential colleges on campus, each with its own spirit and atmosphere. Each college has a student cafeteria offering three meals per day, study areas, group meeting rooms, and a recreational lounge.
Personal support 24/7
The well-being of our students is a top-priority at Jacobs University. Resident Mentors in each college are the first line of support on a familiar basis. Additionally, there are professional counseling services available on campus. 24/7 security ensures the safety of our community. With this tight-knit support web, we are happy to provide a safe environment for all students, even minor students (16+).
The experience of your lifetime
Are you into sports or arts? Develop your interpersonal and intercultural skills by joining one or more of our many clubs and participating in a variety of campus life activities. Build good sportsmanship on our Rowing Team, strike the right notes in our J-Cappella choir, or philosophize in our Debating Society. No matter what your interests and hobbies are, there is something for everyone. Of course, having a good time with new friends in college is a given!
