A new dedicated research group will be created on the Jacobs University Bremen campus, merging ChemDiv’s extensive drug discovery expertise and technological platforms with advanced fundamental research conducted at the university. The group will be aimed at design and validation of chemical space, synthesis and identification of active compounds, evaluation of structure-activity relationship, and other crucial elements of drug discovery.

The group will use the existing advanced research infrastructure on campus and will benefit from collaboration with outstanding scientists working at JUB. Strategic goals of the group include: initiation of pioneering projects in drug discovery, acceleration of applied research projects conducted at JUB, creation of spin-off companies, and development of the postgraduate education program which will attract world talents to Bremen.

“Our future Bremen-based research group will complement our emerging focus on strategic collaborations with leading academic partners”, said ChemDiv CEO Ronald Demuth. “It is being supported by the excellent researchers and scientific infrastructure at Jacobs University. Additionally, we will see an innovation boost from the digital knowledge and new technologies provided by Jacobs University. We believe that joining forces with Jacobs University will accelerate our drug discovery projects thus ensuring benefits for the public health,” Demuth explained.

“The agreement with ChemDiv is an excellent example of how fundamental academic research can benefit from industrial expertise, and a focus on new technologies will create added value for the University, companies, researchers, and students of Biology and Chemistry," said Jacobs University President Fabio Pammolli, adding further “ChemDiv and Jacobs University will work together to attract entrepreneurs and start-ups in these areas to settle on campus, creating new career opportunities in the city of Bremen.”

He is looking forward to seeing this corporate collaboration come to fruition, along with further future opportunities for the English-language campus university, which was founded in 2001 and is part of the global ecosystem of the Schaffhausen Institute of Technology (SIT).
