Quick-Check for supply chain certainty developed

September 4, 2017

With the support of the Funk Foundation, scientists at Jacobs University have developed a free Quick-Check for supply chain certainty. With this online tool, companies can identify and assess their supply chain risks in just a few minutes.

Thanks to globalization, companies are becoming part of increasingly complex supply chains. Managers must understand and assess the associated risks in order to ensure business success. The online Quick-Check makes it possible to precisely identify the risks and prevent them in a targeted way.

The modular structure of the Quick-Check provides quick results: users receive a first analysis of the risks arising from nature and the elements in just a few minutes. In addition, both company as well as industry risks of the supply chain can be analyzed.

The risks are assessed, among other things, by means of a short questionnaire to be completed by the user. In addition, users create the significant key data of the supply chain to be assessed. These include, for instance, production locations, suppliers, key customers and warehousing locations

The Quick-Check is based on publicly accessible, freely available statistical risk data. Dr. Julia Bendul, Professor for the management of industry 4.0 at Jacobs University Bremen and at RWTH Aachen says: “Individual data that users provide regarding their supply chains and locations are not stored temporarily. Users have full control of their data at all times and can store intermediate results locally on their system”.

With the online tool, both major companies as well as medium-sized companies can assess their current and potential supply chains and locations. Dr. Alexander Skorna, Project Manager at the Funk Foundation: “This tool creates real added value for all manufacturing and retail companies as well as logistics service providers. However, the Quick-Check is also of interest to insurance companies in order to improve their assessment of supply chain risks”.

Users can download the assessments and recommendations for risk prevention free of charge and use them for their presentations.
