The Office for Academic & Public Affairs supports the university leadership in the strategic development of Jacobs University ensuring academic quality and international visibility in close cooperation with the Jacobs community.
The portfolio of the Office for Academic & Public Affairs is based on three main responsibilities.
First, the Office for Academic & Public Affairs is responsible for administering accreditation and quality assurance. This includes the preparation and execution of institutional accreditation efforts. A successful institutional accreditation indicates that the university maintains quality management in research and education, which is suitable to assure the implementation of qualification targets and to guarantee the quality standards of its study programmes. Towards this, the Office for Academic & Public Affairs coordinates Jacobs University’s application of guidelines within the European Higher Education Area. Moreover, we supervise contract management within university cooperation projects.
Second, the Office for Academic & Public Affairs is responsible for the development, implementation and administration of institution-wide policies. These also cover questions of academic integrity and the internal code of ethics. This section of our work also includes the formulation and further development of higher education policies that are required or desirable for Jacobs University. All policies are reviewed regularly by the Office for Academic & Public Affairs in close cooperation with representatives from faculty, students and administration.
Third, the Office for Academic & Public Affairs is the contact office for higher education and governmental institutions. This includes among others the cooperation with the Free City State of Bremen, particularly the senator for education and research. On a national level, our office links to the German Research Foundation (DFG) for the review of board elections as well as to the KMK, the HRK and the DAAD. The Office for Academic & Public Affairs also facilitates contact to the German Fulbright Commission and other institutions for higher education.
