A Warm Welcome from the Reimar Lüst Foundation and the Jacobs Alumni Association!

As minority shareholders of Jacobs University, both the Reimar Lüst Foundation and the Jacobs University Bremen Alumni & Friends Stiftung GmbH share a common mission to uphold the principles and values on which our university was founded 20 years ago: a full university with the highest academic standards, focused on interdisciplinary research, centered around a campus where students of diverse backgrounds live and study together.

After more than a year of searching for a new majority shareholder, we are now happy to officially welcome a new partner that not only shares those values but will strengthen them even further: the Schaffhausen Institute of Technology (SIT) founded by entrepreneur Serguei Beloussov.

SIT is a young non-profit research institution based in Switzerland that aims to tackle global challenges in a highly interdisciplinary and entrepreneurial manner. Its research focus spans across and combines fields such as quantum technology and management sciences, cognitive psychology and computational sciences. Jacobs University Bremen, organized in transdisciplinary research centers, has been following a similar approach, where humanities and social sciences are brought together with technology and natural sciences. With SIT’s engagement as the new majority shareholder of Jacobs University, this interdisciplinary approach will be extended and strengthened.

Jacobs University is a place where not only different disciplines come together but also students of diverse nationalities and backgrounds. While the campus model remains a key element of Jacobs’ educational approach, SIT brings in non-traditional digital learning expertise that will allow a wider pool of international students to experience the “Jacobs spirit” in a post-pandemic world. Collaborating with SIT, Reimar Lüst Foundation and the Jacobs University Bremen Alumni & Friends Stiftung GmbH are committed to promoting the inclusivity and diversity of Jacobs University, where talented young people may study irrespective of their financial background and where novel educational approaches are pioneered.

Serguei Beloussov and his team of diverse researchers and entrepreneurs from Switzerland, Singapore, Europe and the US, embody the Jacobs values of diversity and transdisciplinarity. And this will certainly not only benefit Jacobs University but also Bremen as such. We are looking forward to the future development and success of Jacobs University with the continued support from our new as well as existing partners and stakeholders in Bremen and beyond.

We invite you to join us in giving our new partner a warm welcome and be part of the journey that lies ahead.
