Jacobs University Bremen in partnership with Schaffhausen Institute of Technology (SIT) continues to be one of the best-performing universities in Germany. In the international university comparison U-Multirank, it achieved top marks no less than 15 times – with two more top marks than in 2021. This rating places it amongst the most prestigious universities in Germany, second only to WHU- Otto Beisheim School of Management. Jacobs University performed particularly well in the categories of research and knowledge transfer this year.

U-Multirank evaluated a total of 106 German universities and universities of applied sciences. Internationally, almost 2,000 universities from 96 countries are evaluated in the ranking. With its multidimensional, user-driven approach, the ranking system compared Jacobs University’s performance in five categories: teaching and learning, research, knowledge transfer, international orientation, and regional commitment. Evidence of Jacobs University's research strength is the amount of research funds raised by its scientists, along with interdisciplinary publications and post-doctoral positions. In the category of knowledge transfer, the publications carried out jointly with industrial partners were given the highest rating – so did the number of awarded patents and publications cited in connection with patents.

Jacobs University received top marks this year with its international orientation. At the English-language university, more than 1,600 students from over 110 nations live, learn and conduct research together. Furthermore, 33 percent of the academic staff come from all over the world, and almost 69 percent of the doctorates at Jacobs University are international. The "Gender Balance," a new indicator in the ranking that evaluates equal opportunities between women and men in the transition from bachelor's/master's studies to doctoral studies, was also positively highlighted.

"We are very proud to have our efforts to offer our students an excellent education in an international environment reflected in this outstanding ranking," said Professor Fabio Pammolli, President of the international university in Bremen-Nord. In the comparison of degree programs, Psychology and Earth Sciences particularly stand out, with Jacobs University taking first and third place, respectively.
