O-Week 2017

Welcome to Jacobs University



Orientation Week 2017 takes place from Tuesday, 29th of August until Monday, 4th of September 2017.

It is absolutely mandatory to attend, so please plan your trip in advance in order to arrive as early as possible during August 29!

Orientation Week is designed to assist you – as a new student – to settle into university life at Jacobs University. Our unique series of events will introduce you to your academic program, your academic advisors, faculty, your fellow students, your college, campus life – and life off-campus.

With the help of our student advisors, graduate mentors and intercultural trainers, your transition will be informative, fun, and definitely unforgettable.

We are looking forward to seeing you on campus!

Fri, Sep1DAY 4: Getting settled at Jacobs University and in Germany - Welcome to German bureaucracy – make sure you are safe and legal in all ways.
Sat, Sep 2  DAY 5: Intercultural Training & Explore Your Neighborhood– Learn where to go off-campus for shopping, dining and more.
Sun, Sep 3DAY 6: Meet new friends - Spend time with your Host Families / Student Advisor / new classmates
Mon, Sep 4DAY 7: Annual Opening Ceremony

Student Advisor

Student advisors are second or third year students of Jacobs University that will support you by providing help, answering all kinds of questions, direct you to relevant campus services and update you about student activities. Your student advisor will get in touch with you by early August.

The Orientation Week starts on Tuesday, 29th of August 2017 at 7:00 am. Once you’ve entered campus, there will be a Registration Desk where the Admissions Staff will welcome you and give you your welcome package.

Early Arrival

Please note that August 29 is the earliest arrival date. We cannot offer campus accommodation to students who may need to arrive earlier, but we have prepared a list of Off-Campus Housing Facilities for such cases.


Missing o-week?

Although it is very important to attend Orientation Week in person, we do understand that there are justified cases where students cannot arrive in time on Campus. If you cannot attend o-week, please contact campuslife [at]

Health Insurance and bank account

There will be a whole session on September 1st assisting you in signing up for German health insurance and opening a bank account. Thus, you can have a relaxed start when your actual lectures begin.
