Open Brown-Bag Lecture on Political Science in the Digital Age

Digital communication technologies shape societal and political dynamics in fundamental ways. How does political science respond to these transformations? The talk focuses on the need to expand the boundaries of our field in two dimensions: First, by expanding the scope of our research to include questions of the use, distribution and impact of digital communication, and second, by modernising the methodological toolkit to work with data derived from digital sources. The talk illustrates both dimensions with examples from current research.

Formerly a research fellow at the Centre for the Study of Civil War, Peace Research Institute Oslo, the Jackson Institute, Yale University, and the Woodrow Wilson School, Princeton University, Nils B. Weidmann`s research overcomes traditional boundaries of disciplines. Underpinned not least by his publication record, untypical for political scientists.
The Konstanz research group contributes significantly to the development of “Computational Social Science”, is with such an interdisciplinary approach in line with Jacobs University’s research profile.

The lectures are free and refreshments are served.
