How good are the offered courses, the support during studies, the equipment of the laboratories and libraries? In the CHE ranking, the most important comparison of universities in German-speaking countries, students evaluate the study conditions at their respective universities. In addition, other facts about teaching and research are included in the ranking. The students' verdict on Jacobs University is very positive again this year. In all subjects surveyed by the Center for Higher Education Development that are taught at Jacobs University – biochemistry, chemistry, physics, mathematics, computer science, political science, and geosciences – the university receives very good ratings. All seven surveyed subjects have in common that they support first-year students very well.

The ranking by the Center for Higher Education Development (CHE) is the most comprehensive and detailed comparison of universities in German-speaking countries.

In previous years, the international Jacobs University had already achieved excellent results in the CHE ranking. "To not only maintain the level under challenging external conditions of the pandemic, but further improve it for our students at certain points, is a great achievement on the part of our faculty, of which we are proud as a university community," said Professor Thomas Auf der Heyde, Managing Director and Provost at Jacobs University.

In the subject of biochemistry, with a particularly high number of very good ratings, the students praise, among other things, the supervision, the support during their studies, the range of courses, the scientific relevance, and the career orientation offerings. The students also rate the general study situation as very satisfactory. The study organization is also rated very well. In addition, the subject of biochemistry scores well for examinations, practical laboratory courses and support for studying abroad, as well as for the teaching of scientific, methodological and interdisciplinary skills.

In chemistry, too, the general study situation at Jacobs University is rated as very satisfactory. Chemistry students also praise the support during their studies, the organization of their studies, and the teaching of methodological and interdisciplinary skills. The subject of physics receives very good ratings from the students for, among other things, the support, the course offerings, the study organization, specialist rooms, and the library equipment. Students of political science are very satisfied with the support and the organization of their studies. In the case of geosciences, the excursions are particularly mentioned as a highlight.

The geosciences, computer science, mathematics, and political science score with very good research indicators, such as above-average research funds per scientist. The geosciences at Jacobs University also excel in publications and mathematics in doctorates.

With approximately 120,000 students surveyed and more than 300 universities and colleges examined, the ranking by the Center for Higher Education Development (CHE) is the most comprehensive and detailed comparison of universities in German-speaking countries. Jacobs University also regularly receives top positions in international rankings such as the U-Multirank and the World University Ranking of the Times Higher Education (THE) magazine.
