In pre-corona times, it was like this: At the Jacobs Career Symposium, the kick-off event of the annual meeting of Jacobs University’s alumni, participants met on campus and discussed current topics with each other. This time they were connected via video conference in the virtual "World Café". Representatives of the "Career Alliance Bremen" and the Senator for Economics, Labor and Europe were also present.

"Land your dream job in Bremen" was the title of the symposium. In order to keep international talents in Bremen or to attract new ones, the senate has decided on a corresponding strategy in 2019, reported Julia Feddersen from the Economic Affairs Department. She also referred to the diversity, strength and quality of life in Bremen. Dr. Monika Blaschke, Head of Career Services at the City University of Applied Sciences, argued similarly in her video message. She particularly emphasized the career prospects resulting from Bremen's role as a leading technology, research and science location.

In the "World Café" organized by the Career Service Center of Jacobs University, the participants met at five bistro tables, where different topics were discussed under the guidance of experts. Among other topics, they discussed how networks such as LinkedIn or JobTeaser are used for job searches or what opportunities start-ups offer.

At one table in the "World Café" Maren Hartstock from the University of Bremen and Bettina Pelz from the Hochschule für Künste – University of the Arts introduced the "Career Alliance Bremen". Under this name, Bremen's universities cooperate to provide students with even better support in their career start. The Career Service Center of Jacobs University, the Faculty of Economics at the University of Bremen, the University of the Arts, the Bremerhaven University of Applied Sciences and the Career Service at the University of Applied Sciences Bremen are involved in the alliance.
