One of the world’s most renowned university rankings has again impressively confirmed the high quality of research and teaching at Jacobs University Bremen. In the World University Ranking 2021 of the British magazine "Times Higher Education" (THE), Jacobs University was placed among the 300 best universities. In terms of international orientation, it was ranked first place among German universities. More than 1,500 universities worldwide are represented in the THE Ranking this year.

"These are once again outstanding news for Jacobs University. We aim to offer our students the best possible education. The current THE Ranking proves that we emphatically succeed in this. It consolidates our excellent reputation on the international stage and strengthens us in the global competition for the best academic talents – for our university but also for Bremen," says Professor Thomas Auf der Heyde, Provost at Jacobs University.

The THE Ranking is based on evaluations in the five categories research, teaching, citations, international outlook and industry income. A number of indicators are assigned to these categories, such as the ratio of lecturers to students, the international exchange of researchers and lecturers or the international co-authorship of publications. According to THE World University Ranking 2021, the University of Oxford, Stanford University and Harvard University are considered the best universities in the world. Jacobs University is placed in the ranking group 251-300 in the worldwide comparison.

Jacobs University excels in its international orientation: 76 percent of its students moved to Bremen from abroad to study. This, alongside with the above-average number of international employees, makes it one of the top 100 most international universities in the world. Jacobs University also scores points for its research, teaching and industrial income. In all these categories, the university ranks in the top quarter of the global ranking.

This year, Jacobs University already achieved top positions in other university comparisons: In the THE Young University Ranking, in the EU-oriented U-Multirank and in the CHE Ranking, the most detailed university ranking in German-speaking countries.
