Countless paper planes floating through the air: on them, startup experts transferred advice to students, making an instant connection. This ice breaker exercise was part of Innovators Unplugged, a dynamic networking event at Constructor University, that brought together start-up enthusiasts from all over Bremen on campus.
“It is our goal to connect the greater Bremen start-up community closely with initiatives at our international university, creating synergies that benefit students”, said Muhammad Ali Alam, initiator of the event and student of International Business Administration at Constructor University since 2021. More than 100 participants grasped the opportunity to network and exchange ideas on December 1st on the campus of Constructor University in Bremen. Among them: students, numerous innovators and scientists.
Innovators Unplugged was co-organized by Starthaus Bremen and BRIDGE, two central contact points for entrepreneurs and start-ups in Bremen and Bremerhaven. “Us from Starthaus were more than happy to support this event to further integrate the potential of the international students of Constructor University into the Bremen start-up-ecosystem. The remarkably large number of participants - both from the Bremen start-up scene and from the student body - shows how important these events are", emphasized Helge Hußmann from Starthaus. DS (Diersch & Schröder) and Sparkasse acted as sponsors. Also present: the talent scouts from Sparkasse Accelerators.
Constructor University is home to a lively start-up community. It includes the Start-up Competition (JSC), one of the largest student start-up competitions in Europe, as well as several student clubs such as the Hult Prize and the Google Developer Students Club (GDSC). The university also supports students with an entrepreneurial spirit from idea development to market maturity with the start-up option "J-CUB". It is coordinated by PhD student Sonja Mattfeld, who hosted Innovators unplugged alongside Ali Alam.
Participants appreciated the chance to network within the Bremen start-up scene. "Innovators Unplugged exceeded my expectations: As a new founder, I got to connect with like-minded individuals, expanded my network and felt an overwhelming amount of support", emphasized Khawla Monsef, who studies Industrial Engineering and Management at Constructor University. "I was able to make new contacts within the Bremen ecosystem and even met new entrepreneurial minds from our university", said Dr. Francesco Maurelli, Professor of Marine Systems and Robotics at Constructor University. "I hope there will be a second edition of the event next year."
